Var kan just du studera?

When I was ready with my master thesis, a comparative study between two prehistoric settlements in Greece and Bulgaria, I found the opportunity to work abroad. As the education in classic archaeology at the universities in Sweden is focused on Greece and Italy it was important for me to learn more about the Balkans. I have been excavating in Bulgaria for four years and had contacts at the Bulgarian Academy of Science and at the University in Sofia. I get an offer to be research assistant to Prof. Dr.Sc. Valeria Fol, Institute of Thracology "Prof. Alexander Fol" - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia. I have been in Sofia several times, meeting colleagues and using the libraries but mostly I stayed in the northern part of Bulgaria, on Dobruzha that also is my topic. In this area are two important museums, one in Varna and the small one in Dobrich where I also could use the private library. During this year I was invited by the Romanian Academy of Science and visited Bucharest and Constanta one week. The cultures I am studying are represented north of the Danube. In the spring I joined an American team that made a survey in southern Hungary at a settlement from the same age as the one I am studying. Both these visits gave me new influences and a broader knowledge about the area and the time I am interested in.

På en studieresa i Turkiet, efter The Black Sea Congress, tittade jag närmare på det vackra Atena templet i Assos.

As a result of this year I made a proposal for a PhD that now is accepted at the University of Exeter. My aim is to continue with my research about the prehistoric settlement with focus on the diet as a cultural aspect. Sadly there has been no interest shown from the universities in Sweden.

Arkeologi kan vara hett. Här har jag hittat resterna efter en rejäl fest som hölls för omkring tre tusen år sedan utanför Yambol i Bulgarien.

My master thesis is now translated to Russian to be published in Moldavia. I made some changes and have adapted the literature list and the footnotes for this paper. I have also prepared an article that I hope will be published in Bulgaria but also in other European countries. I get offers to take part in several conferences and congresses but there were no way to find the money for travelling. This scholarship gives no possibilities except for surviving on nothing. Thanks to my neighbors for feeding me.

Våra förfäder valde gärna vackra platser för sitt boende, sjöutsikt är inget nytt i mäklarvälden. Efter Svarta Havskusten duggar förhistoriska bosättningar tätt, här i Rumänien.

Overall I had a great time researching an important area, I been networking and I meet a lot of new friends and colleagues. I should have been nice with enough money to live a normal life and also to seen just a small interest from the home university and the colleagues in Sweden.
